I got in a minor car accident, what should I do? Am I covered?
If your car hits another car or something else, pull the car over to somewhere safe, and turn on your hazard lights. Insurance is secondary. Take the time to make sure everyone involved in the accident is safe. What seems like a minor crash to you may cause injuries to someone else in your car or in another car.
What should I do if no one has been hurt, but there’s a lot of damage?
- If there seems to be damage of more than $2,000 (to all cars involved), call the police and wait for them to come to the scene.
- Take pictures while you wait (if it’s safe) to show what happened and the extent of the damage.
- Exchange insurance information with other drivers involved.
- If you were not at fault, try to get contact information for anyone who might have witnessed the crash.
- Call us or the insurance company we placed you with within 24 hours to report the accident and start a claim.
What should I do if no one has been hurt, and there’s a little bit of damage?
- If there seems to be damage of less than $2,000, you may want to follow steps 2, 3 and 4 above, but you don’t need to call police.
- Call to report the accident to a collision reporting centre sometime in the following 24 hours. Call us if you need help at 1-800-731-2228.

Who’s going to fix my car?
Whenever you make a claim on your car insurance, the insurance company is paying the bill, but it’s up to you to decide who is going to provide the services: towing, body work, rental car etc. If you have a trusted provider for these services, great!
