The temperatures are getting cooler, the leaves are beginning to change colour, Halloween decorations are popping up and pumpkin spice-flavoured goodies are suddenly everywhere. Fall is finally here.
There’s no shortage of great activities to enjoy across Ontario before the winter months come. Some of our teammates here at Mitch Insurance have shared their must-dos for the season. Check them out below, throw on something warm and cozy and get out and make the most of autumn!
Alex Gemmiti, Service Team Leader: One of my family’s favorite fall activities is finding a sunny day to go apple picking. We all put on our boots and plaid shirts, grab a PSL (Pumpkin Spiced Latte for those who don’t frequent Starbucks) and spend way too much money to pick our own fruit! But seriously, nothing tastes as good as an apple straight off the tree. And we spend the next few weeks baking fresh apple crisps to bring to friends and family. Or sometimes, to just eat out of the pan while leaning over the sink at 2 in the morning. There are so many fantastic orchards to choose from. One of our go-tos is Watson Farms in Bowmanville. They have a great variety of apples, tractor rides, a playground, a petting zoo and there’s even live music on the weekends.
Lauren Judges, Personal Insurance Advisor: I can’t rave enough about the Terra Lumina events on weekends through October at Toronto Zoo. It’s an enchanted evening walk through the zoo filled with vibrant lighting, video projections and multimedia effects that take you on a journey to the year 2099, a time when humans and nature have learned to live in harmony. A visit to Applewood Farm and Winery in Seagrave is a dream day for any fall lover. It has a 40-acre corn maze, pumpkin patch, cider house and more. You can try a variety of fall-inspired spirits like the pumpkin moonshine and blueberry cider. Yum! And of course, the Halloween Haunt at Canada’s Wonderland is an absolute classic. The streets of Wonderland are filled with hundreds of monsters lurking at every corner and there are terrifying scare zones and mazes, thrilling night rides, and even a vampire disco!
Becky Burnett, Personal Insurance Advisor: The Agora: Path of Light experience at Blue Mountain is not to be missed. You ride the open-air gondola to the top of the mountain before embarking on a night walk along a magical path with interactive lighting installations based on the five elements of air, space, earth, water and fire. It’s incredible for all ages and makes for a great family outing or date night. My family loves it.
Tracey Gilmore, Account Manager: Autumn brings so much wonderful, colourful scenery to enjoy. A great way to experience this is by checking out some of the many great walking trails we have throughout the province. Some personal favourites include the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail, Ken Reid Conservation Area in Lindsay and Bobcaygeon Wilderness Park. Pumpkinfest at Buckhorn Berry Farm in Lakefield is an amazing time too. You can take a wagon ride out to the pumpkin patch and pick your own pumpkins, go for a spooky stroll in the haunted forest, play on straw bales, try your hand at pumpkin bowling and they even have a pumpkin cannon!
Tegan Abel, Office Assistant: With Halloween fast approaching, who wouldn’t want to visit someplace named Pumpkinville? This new interactive pop-up experience is running until the end of October at CF Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke and as you likely guessed from the name – includes all things pumpkin. There are over 30,000 real pumpkins along with massive pumpkin sculptures, pumpkin houses, pumpkin carving and decorating stations and more. Oh, and there are even pet-friendly dates where you can bring your dog making it a paws-atively fun event for the whole family.
